CPMs on blacklabelads.com have massively declined, whereas SMPs on etology are holding up. AFF CPMs are also holding up, although we find the ration of unique clicks to gross clicks is declining.

On this page we give advice to adult webmasters on how to monetize their traffic. Be sure to revisit the page as we will continue to add to it.

Advertising Revenue

General Advice

• Don’t overload your pages with advertising: they alienate your users and your traffic will shrink, and introducing new ad spots will cannibalise the revenues of existing ad spots
• Run several programs in parallel. The performance of programs will vary over time, by having several programs running you will be able to work out whether a programme is under-performing or if there are other factors to blame
• Do geo-targeting . Most programmes only monetize effectively US, Canada and UK traffic. Don’t waste other valuable traffic on these programmes. Good money can be made from German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese traffic.
• Rotate ads: Users rarely click on the same ad twice, or if they have ignored it once they are likely to ignore it again
• Keep ads relevant: selling mobile phones doesn’t work on adult sites.
• Experiment: Experiment with different locations and different banner sizes. Moving an ad from one side of the page to  another can have unexpected results!

Global Traffic

If you can’t do geo-targeting, or need a programme for countries you are not geo-targeting then these programmes are recommended:

German Traffic

Gambling Sites

Generally our experience is that gambling does not work well with porn. Our conversions were extremely low, and the experience was a complete waste of traffic. Furthermore, you should NOT serve ads for Gambling sites to the US.

Alexa toolbar

Whilst many webmasters believe that Alexa rank is totally inaccurate, it is the best free and independent measuring service available and it is  widely used by ad buyers as a research tool. If advertising is a significant part of your website’s income it is imperative you keep a close eye on your Alexa rank. You might even consider publishing your Alexa rank on your advertising page to make help out the advertiser save time. Publishing the rank on your page allows to portray your site in the best possible way: for example “Reach” might look better than “Rank”, or 3 months history might look better than 9 months history.

We also recommend you install the Alexa toobar on your browser (click here: http://www.alexa.com/site/download) this will help you keep a constant eye on your ranking and some webmasters believe that it may even improve your rank!

Subscription Revenue

If advertisers are making money from your visitors they are probably successfully charging a high proportion of them subscription fees, so why don’t you?

The adult industry suffers from a high level of fraud and chargebacks, and as a result many payment providers refuse to work in the sector. Unsurprisingly those who do work in adult are expensive. Below is a list of payment solution providers, though they all claim you can be up and running within 24 hours, it is more like one week.
